Steven has said, “My goal in training people is to create balanced relationships between owners and their dogs”.

My Orgin
Difficult Beginings

Steven was born in the UK. His parents separated when he was very young but not before getting his first dog, where it all began. He was 8 years old. He learned very quickly as the family dogs accumulated about how trust and respect are so important in their relationship. "My parent's separation tore a deep chasm in my world, opening doors to some very unpleasant experiences, but my saviours were the dogs and my grandmother, whose teachings I attribute to my modern-day philosophies. My grandmother was a god-fearing woman who was a leader, very hardworking and the most loving person I have ever known. When she died the local streets were lined with people mourning her passing, the church was so full, crowds gathered outside. In her life, she commanded an enormous amount of trust and respect."

Steven James learnt by doing. Pounding the streets with dogs learning what worked and what didn’t. Family dogs, friend’s dogs, recommendations, some paid some not. “When I was young dog training was a hobby, or something people did at weekends, there was no such thing as trainer training. My healing reputation came from a dog with an ear infection. I relieved the pain by placing my hand on the dog’s ear, a dog that had been whining and groaning for days and was unresponsive to medication, stopped inside of a minute. This was the first time I had ever done anything like this, but it wasn’t my last.”
My Philosophies
According to Steven, dogs have three immediate needs: exercise, discipline and affection., which is another heading for his three levels of energy, instinct and emotion. It is the owner’s responsibility to appeal to the dog’s energy via their own, being strong and confident, then providing clearly communicated boundaries; and then affection. A common failure for dog owners is to give constant affection with hardly any exercise and zero discipline. He encourages owners to understand the effect that their own behaviours have and that their own energy and body language have, on their dog’s behaviour. Teaching them to be confident and hold a posture that demonstrates this, which in turn also affects their energy, exuding calm authority. He teaches and demonstrates how a dog wants a decision-maker so that they don’t have to, showing owners how to maintain and keep their new leadership role.
